Kankan wanted to develop a reusable soap dispenser that could be used directly with their iconic tin can packaged refills. They wanted the design to showcase their refill packaging whilst providing a seamless refill experience.
The resulting design consists of a 'snap and twist' dispenser that attaches directly to the can for hassle-free refilling, creating an iconic silhouette that puts the can refill front and center. The design was longlisted in the sustainable design category of the Dezeen Awards in 2023.

Bathroom packaging has notoriously low recycling rates, which is partly due to the confusing combinations of materials used for different products, leading to consumers being unsure what is recyclable. By packaging their soap in the widely recognised and recyclable tin can, Kankan subtly encourage consumers to recycle their refills.
Whilst the design is seemingly simple, the challenge was achieving a secure attachment and a liquid tight seal between the can and dispenser. The team experimented with various methods and landed on a method of attachment that achieved both a secure attachment, liquid tight seal and an intuitive interaction.
