Maya is a collaborative project between Morrama and a far eastern manufacturing partner, that aimed to bring a more sustainable range of white label refillable cosmetics packaging to market, enabling more brands to switch to more sustainable packaging.
The full range includes refillable skincare pumps & pots, refillable cosmetics palettes and a refillable lipstick/lip balm. All the products are refillable and the refills are all made from paper. The project went on to launch at Cosmoprof Bologna in 2023 and was exhibited at Make Up In Paris 2024 where the lipstick design won the IT award. Products from the range are already being utilised by brands in the Europe and Australia.
Many existing refillable packaging solutions available to brands miss the mark when it comes to sustainability, as the refill part often contains excessive materials or complex mechanisms. The full Maya range focused on stripping back the refills to their absolute essentials, whilst removing singe use plastics and utilising more sustainable paper based technology instead, enabling the refills to be plastic free and compostable. Any mechanisms or necessary complexity was moved into the re-usable cases, that were designed to be kept and refilled again and again.
