Gozney approached IDC to lead the engineering of their latest pizza oven concept, The Dome. The project involved refining the construction and features from initial concepts to a fully production ready design.
The final design went on to be a hugely popular product for both commercial and domestic customers, and picked up a Red Dot Design Award for Product Quality in 2021.
The product itself presented various challenges due to a number of factors including operating temperatures, dual-fuel features and cooking performance.
As the aesthetic design and features of the product were already locked in, the challenge for the engineering team was to maintain the industrial design intent, whilst refining the product for production. This required close collaboration and communication with the Gozney team and manufacturers, to ensure all parties were happy with the end result.
My focus on this project was the design of the lower assembly which housed the gas burner, controls, wood storage and ash tray, whilst developing the rest of the product alongside the team.
